A mum has sparked a fierce debate after sharing a video of her six-month-old daughter getting her ears pierced.
Marisa Carpineta divided opinions when she posted the clip on TikTok urging parents to avoid piercing guns and telling them they should go to a tattoo and piercing specialist instead.
In the video the mum can be seen holding her baby's head while another adult uses a large needle to pierce her ears.
In the clip she says: "Stop using piercing guns on your babies. Get them pierced at a tattoo and piercing shop instead."
The mum even jokes that her baby daughter gives her a "dirty look" after the piercing is done, before sharing an after picture of the tot with the caption "happy baby".
However, the mum's video has outraged many TikTok users who disagree with the practice altogether, The Mirror reports.
One viewer said: "This should be illegal. It should be the baby's choice when they can make one. Putting them through that pain with wanting earrings is awful."
"That's terrible, and the mum smiles... Ugh, poor baby," another said.
A third fumed: "This makes my skin crawl. Or don't inflict unnecessary pain on your baby?!"
But the mum hit back at her critics, saying: "Wah wah wah, she's not your kid so mind yours."
Not everyone agreed, though, with one TikTok user jumping to the mum's defence, commenting: "Y'all act like you'd even remember being pierced as a baby."
"I'm so glad I got mine done as a baby," another agreed.
"You don't remember it so why are you all so pressed about it?!"
A third added: "Thank God my parents got mine done when I was a baby as it's a pain I don't remember."
In a follow-up video, Marisa shared a lovely clip of her baby smiling and laughing, clearly very content, alongside the caption: "She literally has no idea what happened, lol."
