This year's trial results show SNP's failure to address achievement gaps

The Scottish government has called for a review of its efforts to address the learning gap, but yesterday'sexamfailed.

Last year, teachers began evaluating students, significantly reducing the gap between rich and poor and giving more children the chance to go to college.

Many were the first in their families to have that opportunity.

But this year's results show a devastating return to the huge gap between the most and least advantaged in terms of test success.

The Higher gap has nearly doubled, and the gap between National 5 and Advanced Higher has also widened significantly.

But the achievement gap isn't just about percentages. Behind every percent are the children who were denied the opportunity to attend colleges and universities opened to older siblings last year
.

That's unfair.

The futures of the most deprived children have taken a toll as the Scottish government rushed back to traditional test diets after his two-year Covid-caused cancellation.

Perhaps this year's cohort has been more affected by COVID-19 than other cohorts, with thousands of students and teachers contracting the virus and disrupting classes and exam preparation. .

Although a "more lenient approach" was taken to grading the course than in a typical exam year, a return to the old system was likely to result in the poorest performing 2% more than the richest. Double the impact.

In report card terms, the Scottish government needs to do better.

Partner of Populist

Portrayed as part of a witch hunt by his followers I'm here.

The former president is suspected of taking classified documents from the Oval Office after losing the last election.

So the FBI, led by Trump's nominee, justified targeting his Florida bolthole.

Since then, Trump and his supporters have been running amok, speaking and denouncing in apocalyptic terms.

In the UK, supporters of Boris Johnson have accused a similar Trump of being investigated by the MPs' Privileges Committee over allegations that MPs lied to MPs at partygate.

Johnson gives evidence under oath, but the right-wing media and his entourage rallies to discredit the Commission.

Trump and Johnson may be separated by an ocean, but they are a terrifying manifestation of populist politics. Hopefully both get their comeuppance.
