This Morning viewers have been left angered after Alice Beer appeared to offer a loophole in getting more discounts under new government scheme.

The 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme launched today and is designed to encourage diners back in to pubs and restaurants following the UK lockdown.

Customers will receive 50% off at participating establishments, unlimited, throughout August.

The generous discount can be used every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at restaurants, cafés, bars or pubs, work and school canteens and food halls if signed up to the scheme.

Major takeaways such as McDonald's have also signed up but the offer only applies if you dine-in at any participating venue.

However, Alice, who reports on consumer matters for the ITV programme, suggested the public should make the most out of a 'loophole'.

Speaking from a KFC branch in Swindon on Monday's This Morning, she said: "If you park the car and go inside and say 'yes I am going to have my takeaway here' and you sit down and as soon as their backs are turned, hoof it back to your car, they're [staff] not going to come running after you.

"How can they? They can't manage this, they can't police this, so of course, there are loopholes which I am sure customers will find."

But viewers were annoyed that this goes against what the scheme is about as while being good on people's pockets, it's also about getting businesses up and running again.

Not all viewers were impressed with the advice

And the frustration was ramped up further as it's nearly a week since travel expert Simon Calder was slammed for 'irresponsible' advice as he points out Spain quarantine loophole.

One viewer wrote: "Loophole to find.. LOL. Not now, everyone watching This Morning now know a Loophole... great TV people!!"

"Why did she go to KFC and not an independent restaurant which would've probably benefited from the publicity of using #EatOutToHelpOut ? #ThisMorning," another said.

A third added: "@thismorning what is going on with you lot? Are you loophole central these days? How much more advice for skirting the system are you going to give out? @EamonnHolmes @RuthieeL."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
