Thierry Henry hung up his boots seven years ago but he has not lost any of his outrageous technical ability in that time.

The 43-year-old is currently assistant coach of the Belgian national team and a moment in the team’s training session this weekend outlined that Henry still has that ‘va va voom’.

Henry enjoyed a remarkable playing career which is best remembered for an eight-season stint at Arsenal, where he scored 228 goals across 377 appearances.

The Frenchman became renowned for his ability to score from multiple attacking situations, with his natural ability from set pieces - including free-kicks and penalties - never in doubt.

Since ending his playing career in 2014 after a spell with New York Red Bulls in MLS, Henry has subsequently moved into coaching.

He is currently in his second stint as assistant for the Red Devils national side, having been number two to boss Roberto Martinez between 2016 and 2018 - helping to guide the nation to a third-placed finish at the most recent World Cup.

The former striker subsequently tipped his toes into management with spells at Ligue 1 club Monaco - where he began his playing career before joining Juventus in 1999 - and then at Montreal Impact in MLS.

Henry did not enjoy great success in either position and has now re-joined the Belgian coaching staff for this summer’s tournament.

Belgium are not short of attacking talent of their own, boasting players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Dries Mertens and Thorgan Hazard.

Footage has now emerged of the team in training where they were practicising set pieces, with Henry netting an unbelievable free-kick into the top corner.

Not only was it a sensational finish but that it came from the former striker’s unpreferred left foot makes it even more impressive.

The finish was met with incredulity from the surrounding players, with Lukaku the first on the scene to mob Henry - who typically reacted with a great degree of cool and calmness.

The Inter striker was heard shouting: “Come man, record top scorers don’t need this! Come on, man. Go in, go in.”

Manchester City ace De Bruyne - who is one of the best set piece takers in world football - also chimed in to admire Henry’s brilliance.

He added: “That’s the issue - we have been training for half an hour. We scored a few, (then) he just goes in with his left (foot) and kills us.

“And we have a game tomorrow!”

As the players were leaving the training pitch, Lukaku responded: “This guy retired for 10 years, he killed my whole country, man. He killed my whole country.”

Belgium have made the perfect start to their Euro 2020 with victories away at both Russia and Denmark, guaranteeing their place in the Round of 16 going into the final round of group games.

Martinez’s side will conclude their group stage campaign with a match against Finland.
