Governance Check

The Queen's traditional Balmoral Welcome Ceremony will not be held as usual this week - replaced with a "Small Private Event" instead.

Her Majesty, 96, traditionally greets well-wishers at the gates of Balmoral Castle to celebrate the start of the annual Scottish holiday.

She usually inspected the guards of honor of the Balaclava Company, the 5th Battalion, and the Royal Scottish Regiment for all to see.

However, this year the inspections will be conducted behind closed doors instead, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

A palace spokesperson told her The Sun: "This year's event will take place inside the castle gates."

The Major continues to look to the soldiers, but it is understood that television cameras, photographers and reporters will not be invited.

The palace claims the replacement ceremony is "in line with adjusting the schedule for Her Majesty's comfort." told The Mirror:

"It is a great shame that the ceremony will not take place in the traditional manner." She is downsizing her duties to cope.

She arrived in the Highlands last month and will stay at Clay Gowan Lodgein her bed for 10 weeks.

An iron ring was installed around her property and a new £20,000 wheelchair-accessible lift was installed to allow her to move around.

She follows her final trip to Scotland. Prior to that, she was seen walking unaided byher en route to board the Royal Train.

Monarchs like to spend Balmoral holidays surrounded by families who take turns.

Last year Kate and William came with their children George, Charlotte, and Louis.

Edward and Sophie also visited with Lady Louise and Viscount James.
