Steak is not something I normally ever cook at home, but definitely a food that I enjoy. So when I got asked visit a newly opened restaurant that specialises in steak, it was the perfect choice for a date night.

Luxe Steakhouse in Hedon offers a variety of steaks on the menu as well as fish and vegetarian options and started welcoming customers through the doors in November.

The eatery is run by the owner of Robin's Steakhouse in Princes Avenue, which is currently closed down for a refurbishment and rebrand, with the restaurant also set to be named Luxe Steakhouse in keeping with the new chain.

The Princes Avenue restaurant will open again in the coming weeks and from the food I tried in Hedon, I can’t wait to visit when it reopens.

As soon as my boyfriend and I walked in to Luxe Steakhouse in Hedon, we were given a warm greeting and shown to our seats amongst all the other diners in the packed restaurant.

A pianist was playing and singing in the background and there was low lighting which created a nice ambience. The décor was tasteful throughout.

We settled in and ordered our drinks and then scratched our heads for a bit while deciding what to go for on the menu as there were so many tasty options. Starters included soup, fishcakes, bruschetta, prawns, ribs and more.

In the end we decided to go for a grilled lamb chop served with pan fried red onions and mixed peppers and the pan fried mussels served with a shallot onion, garlic, white wine and parsley cream sauce with toasted focaccia.

For our mains, we could have picked from a range of pizzas, pastas, burgers and kebabs as well as pork belly, duck breast, chicken, stroganoff and more.

But seeing as we were eating at a steakhouse, we decided to go for a steak from the menu and ordered a sirloin and ribeye steak on the bone with chips and grilled vegetables.

While we were waiting for our starters to come out, we were brought some olives and bread with an olive and balsamic vinegar dip to snack on. They were delicious, but I tried my best to resist so as not to fill up too much.

I’m definitely glad I left room because I soon had a big bowl of mussels in front of me when they arrived along with bread for dipping in the well-seasoned sauce. They were some of the best that I’ve tasted and the portion was so huge that I palmed a fair few off to my boyfriend who happily accepted them. He said his lamb chop was also tasty and we both couldn’t wait for our mains after sampling the amazing starters.

We certainly weren’t disappointed with our steaks either as they melted in the mouth just like the butter than was served on top of them, and were cooked to perfection, coming with a blue cheese and peppercorn sauce accompaniment.

The chips were nice and chunky and we really liked the grilled vegetables along with the salad, mushroom and tomatoes. The meals certainly were as good as they looked.

After having a bit of a breather, we couldn’t resist trying out a dessert each and went for the gluten free brownie with ice cream and the strawberry and champagne cheesecake with ice cream. Both were delicious.

Feeling pretty stuffed, we finished our drinks and thanked our waitress who had been friendly and attentive throughout the evening, along with the owner who was an excellent host and spent time going around the tables of the restaurant chatting with customers and checking that everyone was OK.

I would definitely recommend a visit to Luxe Steakhouse in Hedon if you feel like treating yourself and I’m certainly looking forward to visiting the Princes Avenue branch when it reopens.
