The Handmaid’s Tale fans convinced Commander Lawrence will get June pardoned for mass child smuggling

LAW AND ORDER

THE Handmaid’s Tale fans are convinced Commander Lawrence will get June pardoned for her mass child smuggling.

Series three of the hit Hulu series ended with June (Elisabeth Moss) being shot by a guard after helping dozens of children escape from Gilead to the safety of Canada via airplane.

If found by the Eyes, the rogue Handmaid will most definitely end up hanging on the wall, but viewers think her current Commander, Lawrence, will come to her rescue.

The pair forged a complex relationship in season three, after Commander Lawrence tried to help June escape in season two despite being one of the Founding Father's of Gilead.

The Commander - played by Bradley Whitford - helped June funnel the children through his house to a plane while distracting the other Commanders.

And now fans think he will come to June's rescue in season four.

Taking to Reddit, one fan of the show wrote: "If anyone were to actually succeed in getting pardoned, it's Lawrence.

"He's essentially a Founding Father and has far more seniority and I suspect he will manoeuvre himself to be leader of the Council."

Meanwhile others think June, Lawrence - who has grown disillusioned with the regime he helped create - and June's lover Nick will help to push the Resistance forward.

One wrote on Reddit: "My guess is June and the other maids go underground to start the fight.

"At some point Nick helps them. He sees Gilead for what it is and knows the end is near."

While production on season four has currently been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic, O.T. Fagbenle - who plays June's husband Luke - has said fans will be "blown away" by the series when it finally airs.

Part of the reason for his excitement is that co-star Elisabeth, 37, is directing a number of episodes in season four.
