Preston North End fans are in favour of the football season restarting and would support any player who refused to play due to safety concerns.

That is based on the results of the Great Big Football Lockdown Survey, which supporters had two weeks to respond to.

The survey, which ran across Reach’s network in England and Wales, asked football fans about a host of different football issues relating to lockdown.

A total of 14,161 users responded - here are the overall results for Preston North End specifically.

Finishing the 2019/20 campaign

Preston North End fans said they were in favour of the 2019/20 season restarting, with 60% saying yes compared to 36% saying no.

If a PNE player refused to play due to safety concerns, the majority of North End fans would support them. 88% said they would, 7% said they wouldn't, and 5% said they were unsure.

Neutral venues however are unpopular with Preston supporters, with 45% saying they don't like the idea. 36% said it's fine, while 19% said they didn't care and just wanted football back.

If the season can't be completed, North End fans said that using points-per-game would be their preferred option (43%). 24% said make the season null and void, while 33% wanted to take standings as they are.

Lilywhites fans agree with the Premier League returning in June, with 36% saying they think it should return that month - 19% said July, 14% said August, 12% said September, and 19% said later than September.

When asked about their concerns regarding football returning, 22% of fans said it was the safety of those involved.

20% said congregation of fans around stadiums, 12% said resources being used for football, rather than other things, 12% said sporting integrity being compromised, 17% said returning too early and having to stop again and 11% said a lack of atmosphere due to playing without any fans in the stadium.

When asked why they want football to return, 20% of Preston North End fans said it was to complete the season on sporting integrity.

13% said to boost morale across the country, 10% said to help set out a road-map to the 2020/21 season, 22% said ensure the financial safety of clubs in the long-term, 17% said to give me something to look forward to, 10% said to give me something to do, 2% said 'I don't know', and 6% said 'none of the above'.

55% of Preston North End fans feel the Covid crisis has strengthened the need to restructure the game in England. 45% said it hadn't.

The majority (76%) said that they would feel safe attending live football when spectators are allowed back into stadiums.

When asked if they would pay extra to watch live coverage of games played behind closed doors 52% of Preston North End fans said no. That's compared to 19% who said yes for every game, and 29% who said yes but only on a game-by-game basis.

On the transfer window, 57% of Preston North End fans said that the dates should be revised so it opens when 2019/20 ends, and finishes when 2020/21 begins.

21% said to open it as usual but players can’t play for new clubs until 2020/21, 7% said to open it when 2019/20 ends, but keep it open for the whole 2020/21 season, and 14% said they don't know.
