A new Colin the Caterpillar product is being made in Hull to help satisfy demand from lovers of the creepy-crawly confection.
Major cake and dessert manufacturer BBF Limited is making a new line of “cake-in-a-jar” products for M&S, and they include a Colin the Caterpillar version.
The chain store describes the new cake jar as “layers of chocolatey goodness and topped with a mini Colin face”, part of a range of new-in Colin treats.
The cake jars join Colin cupcakes and Colin button biscuits while the original Colin sharing cake has been a party favourite since it was first launched in 1990.
The signature Colin cake has sold in its millions – his girlfriend Connie is also a popular buy – and M&S says: “We were the first retailer to sell a caterpillar, with many supermarkets since trying to emulate this crowd-pleasing cake.”
