Tesco customers have been left angry after they were charged multiple times for a single transcation.

An error with the supermarket's contactless payment system meant they were charged for their transactions as many as two or three times.

Customers at Tesco stores in Hull were affected by the error, along with others around the country.

Both the stores and petrol stations were affected.

One shopper said they had been charged twice for a significant amount which made them go overdrawn.

Customers have been told they may not be able to be refunded straight away, leading to further anger.

Tesco said it was "aware there was an issue".

Responding to a customer tweet, they said: "I am sorry about that, we are aware there was an issue in some of our stores. Where funds were being reserved your funds should automatically be released by Monday, June 14."

It advised customers who have not been refunded by Monday to call the customer service helpline.

One shopper tweeted: "’I'd avoid paying in Tesco by contactless. I’ve been charged 3 times for the same transaction in the cafe.

"I can’t get my money back until Monday at least because it’s the weekend. Massive pain. Apparently it’s just contactless, card payments with pin are still fine!"

Other shoppers took to social media to say they had to leave stores empty-handed because they had no other means of paying.
