Templegate’s racing tips: St Leger day at Doncaster – Templegate’s betting preview for ITV’s live racing on Saturday, September 14

A MOMENTOFMADNESS can defend his Portland Stakes crown. Charles Hills’ speedster comes here a handy 4lb lower in the weights than when winning this 12 months ago. He ran his best race for a long time when beaten just over a length in hot company at York last time.

He can miss the kick but William Buick bounced him out and should be capable of doing the same today. He should run well from a handy draw.

Bielsa is the potential big improver in the field. He’s run three, won three so far and scored on his handicap debut at Thirsk last time. This is tougher but there should be a lot more to come.

Orvar won well on his last run here and was another to run well at the Ebor meeting. The ground may be a little fast today but he has claims.

Muthmir hasn’t shown his best for a while and is nine now. But he’s a past winner of this race and can’t be ruled out from this reducing mark.

Open Wide went close in hot company at Ascot latest and was second in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood. That’s strong form and he should be in the shake-up again.

SHINE SO BRIGHT can light up the Park Stakes. He took a step forward when beating Laurens in a tight finish for a York Group 2 last time. This 7f distance is right up his street and he should get his favoured quick ground again.

Sir Dancealot has been a little hit and miss this season. He won well at Goodwood but was well off the pace behind the tip on the Knavesmire. There’s no obvious reason why he would turn that form around.

Turjomaan has a similar profile to Shine So Bright and was a good third at Group 3 level last month. He was in front for a long way there and is interesting dropped back a furlong. He looks capable of better on his third run of the campaign.

Never No More was a fair fifth at the highest level in America latest after winning a Listed race at Leopardstown over this distance. He was back from a break there and could be fitter today. His best form would give him every chance.

Azano couldn’t cope with Group 1 level in France last time out in July. He earlier won a lesser contest across the Channel and is respected coming from the Gosden/Dettori team. He has a bit to find on form but is only three and could improve.

Breton Rock won this in 2016 but has been held in similar races lately. Trainer David Simcock has hit form but he needs to roll back the years.

JUAN ELCANO can send the corks popping in the Champagne Stakes. He won his maiden at Haydock but left that form far behind when finishing an excellent second in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.

He still looked very green there and has been given a little break, which looks a wise move by trainer Kevin Ryan. Richard Hannon thinks a lot of Threat and he repaid his faith with a convincing win in the Gimcrack at York.

He tries this extra furlong for the first time and gives the impression it will bring improvement. He will be right there again.

Royal Crusade won like a nice horse on debut at Newmarket last month. He picked up impressively for William Buick and this hike in class shouldn’t be an issue.

Fort Myers looks the pick of the Aidan O’Brien pair. He was a close-up fourth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but hasn’t gone on from that. He showed some promise when third at The Curragh 15 days ago but this looks a stronger race than that.

Royal Dornach won a maiden over this distance at Gowran Park but needs a lot more to figure against these rivals.

Templegates TV tips

LOGICIAN makes perfect sense in the St Leger. This son of Frankel has been brought along quietly by master trainer John Gosden. After three comfortable wins at a lesser level, he unleashed his full power in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last month.

That was his big test to see if he was Classic material and he passed it with flying colours, giving his rivals a beating without having to hit top gear. He shapes as though this longer trip will suit and looks hard to beat.

Il Paradiso wasn’t disgraced behind Stradivarius on the Knavesmire and is a proven stayer who will be there at the finish.

He appeals a bit more than stablemate Sir Dragonet but he has scope to improve for this step up in distance.

Dashing Willoughby looks the pick of the bigger prices. He relished this distance when winning the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and burned his petrol too early at Goodwood last time. He looks capable of better on this drop in distance.

Sir Ron Priestley looked a typical Mark Johnston battler when winning last time and will give his all again.

Technician is another who dug deep to win at Newbury latest and it should be a good scrap for the places.

BIG Ben can strike. BEN VRACKIE ran well when seventh in the Ebor at York last time but this shorter trip suits him better. He showed that when beaten in a photo for the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He tackles this distance for the first time since then and it should do the trick.

Durston won well on his last visit to the Roodee when the give in the ground was ideal. He followed that with a cracking second at Goodwood so these tricky tracks bring out the best in him. Provided it hasn’t dried out too much he looks the biggest danger.

Manuela De Vega was fourth in the Oaks and has run well a couple of times since, including when second in the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. She’s another coming back to what should be an ideal distance and a good run is expected.

This is a tight race and you can make a case for Sextant despite finishing behind Durston at Newbury latest. He’d earlier won well over this distance at Ascot and Sir Michael Stoute has his horses running well.

Grace And Danger wasn’t disgraced in a Listed race at Windsor and has more to offer with few miles on the clock.

Templegates treble

From betting £10 on Templegate's tips today, William Hill will give new customers £30 in return.

So if you place a tenner on Templegate's NAP, Logician in the 3.35 at Doncaster, you will instantly be credited with three £10 free bets.

You can then place two of these free bets on his other tips, Shine So Bright (2.25 Doncaster, nb) and New Angel (3.55 Chelmsford, treble).

This leaves you will one more £10 free bet to place which you can put on the treble which pays with William Hill.

That's the possibility of winning from on the treble without spending a penny of your own money!

LETHAL LUNCH looks tasty. Forget his run at Ascot last time where he was blocked off a couple of times in a hot race.

He’s better on the all-weather as he showed when coming from a long way back to score at Kempton last month. This 7f trip is right up his street and he could be ahead of the handicapper.

Piece Of History showed some positive signs at Newbury last time after a couple of modest efforts. His most recent run on an artificial surface saw him beaten half a length and in-form trainer Saeed bin Suroor won this race 12 months ago.

Busby ran well off this mark last time and has had plenty of success around here. If he sees out this extra furlong he could be a player.

Sonja Henje has done nothing but improve this season and had plenty in hand when scoring at Epsom latest. She’s stepping up in class but is progressive and has a good 3lb claimer on board.

Lake Volta has been busy in lots of big handicaps this season and is coming down the weights. His rider takes another 5lb off which could make him competitive. War Glory won well here last time and is another to consider.
