A teenager has been stabbed to death with a 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police officers were called to Harrow Road in Ilford at 3:45am on Thursday morning, to initial reports of a fight breaking out.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) also attended the scene where a male, believed 18, was found with stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene just before 4.30am.

A 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to an east London police station where he remains.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will be scheduled.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said "detectives retain an open mind concerning motive".

Labour MP for Ilford South Sam Tarry tweeted: "Terrible news about a fatal stabbing on Harrow Road earlier this morning. I'm in close contact with the @MayorofLondon 's office while investigations are ongoing, and my thoughts are with the victim's family."
