Police investigating multiple high-value thefts across Cheshire have charged two people with the offences.

Over the past month, detectives have been looking into reports of 25 thefts in Warrington, Runcorn, Holmes Chapel, Northwich, Winsford, Widnes and Alderley Edge.

The incidents involved the theft of cigarettes from a number of retails stores.

After his arrest on Tuesday, October 26, police can confirmed that Edward Warde, of Warrington Road, Runcorn, has been charged.

The 35-year-old has been charged with assault by beating, driving while disqualified and theft from a shop.

A 14-year-old boy, also from the Runcorn area, has been charged with theft from a shop.

The pair are both set to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court later today, Thursday 28 October.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: "Detectives investigating a series of high-value thefts across Cheshire have charged two people.

"Edward Warde, of Warrington Road, Runcorn, was arrested on Tuesday 26 October.

"The 35-year-old has since been charged with assault by beating, driving while disqualified and theft from a shop.

"A 14-year-old boy, also from the Runcorn area, has been charged with theft from a shop. "
