McFly star Tom Fletcher and pro partner Amy Dowden have both tested positive for coronavirus, the day after the first Strictly live show.

With controversy still surrounding the rumours that three Strictly pros have refused to have the Covid vaccine, McFly firstly took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to post: "Unfortunately Tom is unwell and won't be onstage with us tonight in Glasgow. He sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won’t see tonight.

"The show will still be going ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight."

However, just hours later, confirming that Tom had Covid, another post on the band's Twitter account read: "Further to our last message we can now confirm that Tom has tested positive for Covid-19.

"I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!

"Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week. I will be cheering you all on!

Tom rehearsed for Saturday's first Strictly live show whilst on tour with bandmates Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, taking pro Amy with him to venues like Newcastle's Utilita Arena, getting dance practise in whenever they could.

The pair hit the ballroom for the first time on Saturday night, getting a respectable score of 21 for their cha cha cha to Earth, Wind & Fire's September.

As the dance ended, viewers at home heard Amy give a sweet message to Tom.

She told him: "Well done Tom," and as he said the same thing back to her, Amy then added: "So proud, so, so proud of you."

Saturday's leaderboard was topped by presenter AJ Odudu who earned an amazing week 1 score of 34/40 for her sensational jive alongside partner Kai Widdrington.

John Whaite and Adam Peaty tied for second place in the first week standings, both getting scores of 30.
