Tom Fletcher has been forced to pull out of McFly’s concert tonight and will miss next week's Strictly show after he and his dance partner Amy Dowden tested positive for Covid.

It was announced that the pair have coronavirus just hours after making their dancefloor debut together on Strictly Come Dancing.

The musician was due to perform in Glasgow while touring with his bandmates Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.

Get well messages flooded in after McFly's official Twitter account announced that the singer and guitarist couldn't perform.

The first tweet read: "Unfortunately Tom is unwell and won’t be onstage with us tonight in Glasgow. He sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won’t see tonight.

"The show will still be going ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight."

Tom added a short message, telling fans: ‘"So, so sorry."

One fan told him: "Tom pls stop apologising you’re breaking my heart.

"Please just rest up and look after yourself, bless your heart. We’re all behind you n just want you to get back to feeling well again."

Another said: "It's been a crazy week and you really really need to rest. Please take care of yourself and I really hope you feel better soon. Good vibes all your way."

A second tweet then confirmed he had Covid.

"Further to our last message we can now confirm that Tom has tested positive for Covid-19," it read.

"He is now self isolating and following the latest government guidelines. Please join us in wishing him a speedy recovery."

A BBC spokesperson said: "Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19.

"The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

"While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week.”

Tom impressed on Saturday night as the pair danced to Earth, Wind and Fire’s September on the first live show of the new Strictly Come Dancing series.

Fans were amazed that as well as starring in Strictly he's currently touring with his band.

"Wow, a great opening dance from Tom Fletcher, can’t believe he’s touring with McFly and rehearsing at the same time," remarked one viewer.

"How did he do that while touring?" asked a second fan.

On Thursday night Tom took the opportunity to bring Amy up on stage in front of the Manchester crowd at the AO Arena.

The audience cheered as Amy was introduced onto the stage, with her embracing Tom in front of thousands.

They then gave an impromptu sample of what viewers could expect.
