A stray dog is lucky to be alive after he fell into a meat grinding pit at a processing plant.
Memphis Animal Services shared video of the dog’s incredible rescue on Wednesday after he fell 12 feet down into the ‘slimy and slippery’ pit.
Authorities said they did not know how long the dog, named McGregor, was in the pit – but he was exhausted by the time they found him.
‘He was so, so tired. We speculated that he must have been trying to pull himself out of it until he just couldn’t anymore,’ Memphis Animal Services (MAS) wrote.
MAS Officer Amanda Sutter climbed a ladder down into the pit and tried to get a horse harness around the dog, but it did not reach far enough.
Sutter then used a six-foot control pole to loop a wire around McGregor’s neck. They then looped another control pole around the pole holding the dog.
‘Then with one hand holding on to the ladder, Officer Sutter pulled 68-lb McGregor up with the other hand far enough for Officer Hunley to pull him up the remaining way,’ MAS wrote.Girl, 6, crushed to death by falling stack of 65 folding chairs
McGregor was so tired that he was barely able to climb out of the pit as the officers lifted him towards the top.
After McGregor was free, the officers covered him in towels and took him to a MAS center, which is where they named him after UFC champion Conor McGregor.
‘We decided to name him McGregor after one of the most famous fighters we could think of at the time because he’s a fighter, and he deserves an honorable name,’ Sutter said.Top cop says mother of missing toddler Evelyn Boswell is lying to them
McGregor is now recovering and has peen put up for adoption.
‘I hope he can find a good home where he’s able to overcome this traumatic experience. I hope he can realize that there’s actually good things in life,’ Sutter said.
