Stormzy lashes out at media for 'intentionally spinning' his words after Boris Johnson comments: 'Please don't try beg it in the future'

The grime star, who recently released his new album Heavy is the Head, was also interviewed by Italian newspaper La Repubblica when he said that Johnson "encourages hate among others".

"If the top person can openly say this racist thing – the ‘piccaninnies’ remarks, ‘watermelon smiles’, comparing Muslim women to a letter box – if that is our figurehead, the top man, the leader we have to follow, and he openly says these things, he encourages hate among others," he said.

Seemingly in response to some of the headlines generated from this story, he tweeted: "All you publications and media outlets that are intentionally spinning my words for some click bait can suck my d*** and please don’t try beg it in the future."

Stormzy made an appearance on Thursday (19 December) at Electric Ballroom in Camden, London with Harry Styles, who was celebrating the release of his album Fine Line.

The pair performed Stormzy’s hit “Vossi Bop” together, and urged the audience to shout the lyrics: “F*** the government and f*** Boris.”

One day earlier, the musician dismissed Piers Morgan after the TV presenter attacked him for telling a group of schoolchildren that Johnson is a “very, very bad man”.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said the grime artist should “wield [his] power more carefully” after he answered a question from a Year 3 pupil at his old school about what he thought of the prime minister.

Stormzy replied: “The kid asked me a question and I replied truthfully. Nothing wrong with that, Piers."

Heavy is the Head has received critical acclaim, with The Independent awarding it four stars and observing it contains “all of Stormzy’s best traits”.
