Steph McGovern reveals she turned down Strictly Come Dancing – but would consider doing 2021 series

STEPH McGovern has revealed she turned down the opportunity to appear on hit show Strictly Come Dancing – but would consider doing the 2021 series.

Speaking on Monday’s edition of her show, Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4, the English journalist, 38, admitted she’s been asked a few times to appear on the hit BBC show.

Talking to her guest comedian Luke Kempner, Steph revealed: “I have actually been asked a couple of times.

“I got asked again this year but obviously I had a show to launch.”

When Luke asked if she would consider it next year, Steph said: “Maybe, I don’t know.”

When Steph asked her lunch mates in the studio whether she should take part in the hit BBC One show, she received an overwhelming and enthusiastic yes!

The news comes after Steph insisted her Packed Lunch show will not be axed despite recording zero viewers.

The 38-year-old, who previously hosted BBC Breakfast, confirmed her new daytime show on Channel 4 will not be closing after a fan questioned whether or not it will be closing.

Steph returned to screens in September with her new show following a successful stint presenting The Steph Show on Channel 4.

Reports the show was to close came after Barb viewing figures revealed that at 12.56pm on one September day not a single viewer tuned in, according to The Mirror.

One fan keen to know the truth took to Twitter to ask Steph herself about the rumours, writing: “Is your show closing?", to which the TV presenter replied with a stern: "Nope".

Channel 4 also hit back against reports of the zero ratings, with a spokesperson saying: “On Tuesday Steph's Packed Lunch attracted an average audience of 87,000 viewers from 12.30pm – 2.10pm and drew 204,000 at its peak.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch is Channel 4’s live daily show, shown weekdays at 12.30pm, from Leeds and features celebrity guests, food, real-life features and a mix of the best entertainment, lifestyle and consumer stories making the headlines.
