Stacey Solomon has confirmed that her son Rex will be staying in hospital overnight after his "nightmare" accident that saw him rushed to A&E.
In a series of messages on Instagram this afternoon, she revealed that the little boy, aged two, will be staying overnight in hospital tonight and be receiving stitches in his lip first thing tomorrow morning.
The 31-year-old said: "The ward called and they're really lovely and they've got a bed. So they want us to come in tonight to make sure the stitches get done first thing in the morning with him.
"So I'm going to write a list, pack a bag, maybe have a shower, feed all the kids, and feed him up as much as I can before midnight.
Hopefully it will get done quickly in the morning and we'll be back home. But happy, happy Monday!"
Yesterday, the toddler fell in a 'nightmare' accident and cut his lip. His parents, Stacey and Joe Swash, rushed their son to the casualty department where the emergency staff applied butterfly stitches. These are temporary, narrow strips of adhesive bandages that are used to close little cuts.
This afternoon, pregnant Stacey admitted that it had been difficult to keep the butterfly strips in place, saying:
""He's finally gone down for a nap, whoo. So I'm no longer on stitch watch. I've tried to put them back but they're so fiddly and they're such such an awkward place. And he's so animated, so he'll be like (and then she opened her mouth really wide) Mu-u-u-u-m!"
After after examining Rex's injury, the doctors told the Loose Women star that Rex would need to return to have permanent stitches in his lip.
However, although she went back this morning and posted a picture of Rex waiting patiently, she informed her followers that they'd had to come home without receiving treatment.
"We have had to come back home because there were lots of more urgent little ones who needed care. And Rex couldn’t wait any longer without some food and water so we are playing in the garden, waiting to find out when to go back again."
She posted a heart emoji and a picture of her tot, with his blond hair tied back in a pony tail, beaming with a wide grin. His cut lip was not visible.
Rex was happily playing on his scooter in their beautiful lawn surrounded by mature trees. From the look on his face, he didn't seem to have a care in the world and certainly wasn't worried how dirty he was making his romper suit.
The mum of three continued, explaining that she was finding it difficult to keep Rex's wound from opening again: "But my gosh trying to keep butterfly strips on this smiley bum is impossible. Any advice welcome."
She also posted: Thank you for your kind messages. He is being a good pickle and thanks goodness he’s happy."
Earlier today, Stacey had informed her 4.5 million followers that she'd be returning to the hospital again. She said:
"We are off this morning to get some proper stitches as the butterfly ones won’t hold in the awkward place But luckily everything is absolutely fine. Rex is OK and smiley as ever this morning."
But she revealed that while Rex seemed happy enough, she wasn't, adding:
"I’m nervous for today but I know he will be a little star and I will be there the whole time and we will send Daddy off to get supplies."
At the time of the accident, Stacey had said that Rex had taken everything in his stride and had asked the doctor calmly for help. Yesterday, on her Instagram stories, she posted: "He was so good, he didn’t make a sound. He just told the doctor ‘Fix it!'”
Stacey joked, “Joe, on the other hand…”
Joe joined in the conversation saying, “ Honestly.. when the kids are hurt…" and made a pained face.
Stacey added: "He had to leave the room and he wasn’t even crying, it was so funny!
"I’ll be looking after Joe more today, probably. I love you,” she gushed to her husband-to-be. The couple, who met in 2010, when she won I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!, have announced that they've postponed their wedding.
Their marriage ceremony was due to take place in the garden of the new home in Essex that they've called Pickle Cottage. Instead, five days ago Joe, 39, and Stacey announced that she's expecting their second child together.
