A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death in a busy town centre in front of shocked Christmas shoppers, police have revealed.
Jordan Davies died following the incident outside an Iceland store in Barry on Monday afternoon and a 24-year-old man is being held on suspicion of his murder.
On Tuesday, police said the incident had been "extremely distressing" for shoppers and retailers who witnessed it in the busy Holton Road shopping street at about 4pm, and thanked onlookers for coming to Mr Davies' aid.
DCI Mark O'Shea, senior investigating officer from South Wales Police, said: "This was a tragic incident which has cost a young man his life and has devastated families.
"The attack happened in a busy town centre and I would like to thank those members of the community who came to Jordan's aid and did what they could to help him.
"While many tried to assist, we know that the incident was captured on camera and I would appeal to anyone with any mobile phone or dash-cam footage not to share it publicly and instead pass it on to the police so that we can fully investigate and ensure justice for the young victim.
"The public have been really forthcoming with information, which proved key in ensuring a suspect was apprehended quickly.
"We're still, however, appealing for anyone who has any information – no matter insignificant it may seem – to come forward."
He added: "This was an extremely distressing incident for all who were present, including local retailers and shoppers and our officers who remained at the scene.
"I'm extremely grateful for the patience and kindness shown by generous local residents."
Police say the 24-year-old man held on suspicion of murder, who has not been named, was known to Mr Davies.
They are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and are asking for any footage of the incident to be supplied to them.
