Sponsor: Fertility Support Worker Stands Up for Honor

Fertility treatments can be daunting for patients suffering from an emotional roller coaster.

Those who desperately want children need as much support as possible. That's where healthcare support worker Kirsten Wilson comes in.

She won the Scottish Health Awards. The Daily She Records operates in partnership with NHS Scotlandand honors the country's most dedicated staff.

"Fertility can be a daunting journey for everyone, and not everyone has a happy ending. It's heartbreaking. I'll help them get through it." ', said Kirsten, 29, of Dalkeith.

She spent four years at the Royal Hospital's Edinburgh Fertility Centre, now open to the University where she is studying for a degree in nursing.

"It's an interesting job because there are so many professionals involved in helping people give birth, from embryologists to doctors to nurses to laboratory staff. Regardless, I have remained friends with some of the people who have been treated. Many of my patients have come back to show their babies, send pictures and videos, which is great."

Kirsten assists doctors and nurses during scans and in theaters where egg retrieval and embryo transfer take place and the patient is comfortable.

"I am currently training to be a nurse because the procedure was fascinating and made me want to do more to help my patients. I look forward to returning to and seeing you all.”

Jacqui Doran, the NHS official who nominated Kirsten, said: Kirsten has this extraordinary ability to use humor appropriately and appropriately to engage all patients, which is a unique quality. patient loves her dearly, nothing is too much trouble for her, she is taking advantage of the opportunity in her nursing training and knows she will be great in this future role.”
