SPFL 'invites' bid for TV rights from Sky rival IF broadcast giant rejects additional bundle

SPFL officials aim to attract other broadcasters if Sky does not address the first refusal of additional match packages attached to Scottish football's new television deal.

Agreement for Sky to adopt a new one. A five-year, £150m deal is understood to be on the horizon, which would give him the rights to air 60 games per season, up from his current 48. Bundled packages, each cost him £4 million. And if the broadcasting giant says no,the Daily Mail reports that the governing body will seek talks with the likes of Viaplay, BT Discovery and BBC Scotland. Premier Sport continues to be a hot topic, currently covering both the league and the Scottish Cup.

Sweden-based Viaplay has already made its intentions clear by securing exclusive coverage of the Scottish men's national team between 2024 and his 2028. Should BT Sport move to the Premiership package, it will be a popular choice. The station received worldwide acclaim for its live coverage ofSPFL before losing the rights to broadcast at the end of the 2019-20 season.

The BBC currently broadcasts several highlight programs, but has been live for almost 20 years since signing a two-year exclusive deal for the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons. It does not broadcast league games.

Any winning bidder will have the opportunity to broadcast the match during his window of extended blackout on Saturdays in the UK from 2:45pm to 5:15pm.
