Posh perfume fans have discovered a way to smell like you're wearing a £57 Thierry Mugler eau de parfum for just £2.99.

The hack is thanks to the fact that Lenor's Exotic Bloom fabric softener reportedly smells exactly like the designer fragrance Alien.

So you can apparently ditch the gold and purple bottled perfume for a capful of Lenor in your washing machine - and smell like Alien for days.

If you don't know what Alien smells like, according to Thiery Mugler: "Alien is the Daughter of the Sun, half woman, half goddess.

"Alien Eau de Parfum is worn like an emblem and feels like an awakening borne of the sun, mystical and then enveloping.

"The Alien fragrance leaves a trail of delicately floral Sambac jasmine, woody and amber notes. Alien’s secret is locked inside a perfume bottle inspired by amethyst, a symbol of meditation and tranquillity. And this precious stone will last for eternity, for you can replenish it at The Source or with a refill bottle.

"The Sambac Jasmine in MUGLER’s Alien Eau de Parfum is hand-picked in India and carefully selected by the IFF fragrance house.

A feminine perfume from the Amber-Woody-Floral fragrance family, with notes of Sambac Jasmine, Cashmeran Wood and White Amber."

On the other hand Lenor Exotic Bloom fabric softener costs just £2.99 from  Asda  ,  Tesco  and  Home Bargains .

Shoppers say the fabric softener has the same floral, woody and amber notes, reports The Mirror .

One shopper took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group  to alert others. Writing: "OMG They now have Lenor that smells similar to ALIEN PERFUME - available everywhere if its don't get sold out eg Asda, Tesco's wilkos, home bargins."

Some cleabing fans also claim the Zoflora Midnight Blooms disinfectant  has a similar scent.

So what are you going to spend the other £54 on?
