Shirley Ballas makes a savage dig at struggling Matt Goss after he dodges elimination

STRICTLY Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas has shared her thoughts on contestant Matt Goss - admitting she is "mortified" that he is still in the competition.

The head judge, 62, made her feelings clear when being grilled about Matt going head-to-head with Loose Women star Kaye Adams on Sunday night.

Matt, who found fame in 80s pop group Bros, was saved in the first dance off of the series after Shirley's fellow judges chose to save him.

But Shirley would have saved Kaye - and now she has revealed why.

During an appearance on BBC's The One Show, the ballroom legend said: "I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes, but the quality of Kaye was far superior.

"I was absolutely mortified that she left, to be quite honest."

Shirley added: "I love my fellow judges and we're all there to do a job but, in my opinion, that was one they didn't quite get right."

Matt and Kaye both ended up in the bottom two on Sunday night following this year's first live show after scoring 22 marks each.

While Kaye appeared to take the news well, fans were convinced that Matt was "fuming" about being in the dance off.

One fan wrote on Twitter at the time: "Matt Goss looked murderously furious to be in the dance off; I’m terrified of him."

Another added: "Matt looks fuming - his facial expressions."

A third mused: "Fully expect Matt Goss to have an emergency illness, so he can drop out without losing face."

In the end, he was saved by judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke, as Kaye was left to say her goodbyes.

Shirley, meanwhile, told Strictly host Tess Daly that she would have saved Kaye.

Days earlier, Matt - who is partnered with pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova - had risked getting the judges' backs up while appearing on spin-off show It Takes Two.

He accused the panel of giving him a 'vague' critique following his Week One performance with Nadiya.
