'Sexual predators' on trial accused of offences against girl

A GROUP of ‘sexual predators’ abused a vulnerable underage girl over a number of months as she was home alone most evenings, a court has heard.

Nazir Khan, Hassan Ali, Usman Sultan, Kamran Hussain, Ali Razaq and Sohail Hussain are all charged with rape.

A seventh man, Kasam Hussain, 30, of Lister Street, Keighley, faces one charge of intentionally inciting a girl aged under 16 to engage in sexual activity.

The seven defendants face a total of 17 counts between them and all seven pleaded not guilty to all charges against them.

The trial of the seven men got under way at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

The charges against the defendants date from between 2008 and 2009.

The court heard the girl from Keighley, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was often drunk most days as she was regularly left home alone at night.

The men would come to a house and treat it like it was their own, drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis.

She alleges she performed oral sex on the men on multiple occasions and was ‘palmed off’ on them.

The girl initially made two rape allegations to police in 2009, but the case was closed then as she did not co-operate further with the investigation.

But the police investigation re-started between 2015 and 2018.

Just before the alleged attacks took place, the girl was described as withdrawn and vulnerable.

Prosecutor Kama Melly QC, who opened the case, branded the men as ‘sexual predators’ and manipulation and exploitation of the girl took place by the group.

She added intimidation and a sense of expectation often led to the girl having to perform these acts on the men.

Ms Melly said: “These offences were not with true consent.

“They just wanted to use her sexually.”

She told the court the girl often felt “frightened” and “petrified” about the men coming to her house and took to sleeping with a knife under her pillow.

She told social services the men coming to her home on an evening were always trying to get her to give them oral sex, the court heard.

Ms Melly said: “She described sometimes there would be a degree of physical force, sometimes she would just give into them because she didn’t want to have vaginal sex with them.”

Nazir Khan, 28, of no fixed abode, faces two rape allegations. He is alleged to have attended the girl’s house on multiple occasions with other men.

The girl says she gave Khan oral sex and he ‘exploited her’ on a number of occasions. He met the girl through a friend of the alleged victim and thought she was 16 or 17.

Khan says he never saw the girl being intimate with any men and went to her home for alcohol, not sex.

Usman Sultan, 28, of Lawkholme Lane, Keighley, faces four rape allegations. Sultan says he has never had any sexual activity with the girl.

Kamran Hussain, 28, of Hawk Street, Keighley, faces two counts of rape. The girl alleges oral sex involving them took place on a settee in her house while others were watching and she did the same to others there too. The court heard Kamran Hussain was one of the men she ‘was expected to give oral sex to’.

He agreed he has been to the girl’s house, but denied anything sexual had taken place.

Ali Razaq, 26, of Hawk Street, Keighley, faces one count of oral rape involving the girl. He denied the charge but later admitted to police that oral sex had taken place between the two of them, but he claims it was fully consensual.

Sohail Hussain, 30, of Skipton Road, Keighley, faces five counts of rape. The court heard one of the alleged incidents took place at a bandstand in a park. The girl says she was in a relationship with Sohail Hussain.

Hasan Ali, 28, of Hollings Lane, Keighley, faces two counts of rape. He is alleged to have had oral sex with the girl, which he denied in a police interview in October 2018.

The trial continues.
