25 images show scenes of high drama as 25 fire and rescue crews from across the UK converge on the River Tyne for the last day of the Festival of Rescue
It might have looked like a scene of chaos, with the sight of overturned and crumpled cars, fires and injured casualties, but in reality fire and rescue crews from across the UK could not have been in better control in an impressive display of life-saving skills around the River Tyne on Saturday.
The culmination of the two-day Festival of Rescue played out with rope, car and water rescues watched by crowds who lined the Newcastle and Gateshead banks of the Tyne.
The river, the Millennium Bridge and Baltic roof were all used to host scenes of dramatic rescue as the festival, which began on Friday, brought 25 fire and rescue services from across the UK to compete in a series of timed challenges.
The 2021 UKRO Challenge – Festival of Rescue is an annual event which this year was hosted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service whose team was also involved in the final challenge of the weekend, tweeting afterwards "look at the great crowd that’s turned out, thank you for you support it’s great to have a home crowd behind us".
