Scott Brown swerves FA Cup shock as Celtic hero saluted by match winner for half time shake-up

Scott Brown's Fleetwood Town overcame a stubborn Ebbsfleet United side to win their FA Cup second round tie 1-0 and set up a potential Premier League date with destiny.

The Celtic hero is looking to make his name as a manager and has gone to the Cod Army in England's League One as a starting point. He's already came across Frank Lampard's Everton in the Carabao Cup and now joins 19 other EPL sides in the third round after Gerard Garner's second half goal sealed a narrow win.

It was their only shot on target in a stodgy game and their goalscorer says that tactical changes from Brown after a lacklustre first half ensured victory over National League South opposition. He told ITV: "It is good to get through to the next round as we knew this would be a tough game. They gave us a good one and I was happy to get the winning goal.

"It was a small pitch and they played a back five. They defended well and had a few chances themselves. We knew it'd be tough. It was a change of shape (at half-time) that got us the winning goal at the end. Every team in the lower divisions wants a Premier League team, away hopefully, and it would be good to get another."

Brown's first coaching gig was at Aberdeen after leaving Celtic in 2021, but he departed the Dons shortly after Stephen Glass' lamented spell as manager ended. The former Parkhead captain formally hung up his boots before being appointed at Fleetwood, who are 17th in the third tier, having won just four of their 19 matches, of which they have drawn 10 and lost the other five.
