Scotland vs Czech Republic LIVE: Euro 2020 result and reaction today after Patrik Schick goal

Euro 2020: Daily briefing

Scotland’s 23-year wait for an appearance at a men’s major tournament ended on Monday, and it ended in defeat by the Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

Steve Clarke left Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney out of the matchday squad, a decision the coach might regret as his side were 2-0 losers in Glasgow – courtesy of a fine brace from Patrik Schick, who headed the opener before scoring an outrageous goal from the halfway line. Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson captained Scotland from left wing-back, with Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and John McGinn of Aston Villa starting together in the centre of midfield, but the quality of those players was unable to influence composure in the rest of the side.

Scotland, who were roared on by a raucous crowd but failed to send the fans home happy, are now bottom of Group D on goal difference, with the Czechs top. England, meanwhile, are second after beatingCroatia 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday thanks to a second-half Raheem Sterling goal. The Three Lions are next up for Scotland in a huge derby on Friday, a game the Scots will feel they must win ahead of their final group game against Croatia.

Follow all the post-match reaction and analysis from Scotland vs Czech Republic at Euro 2020 below:

Half-time: Poland 0-1 Slovakia

The players are back out in St Petersburg and the second half will get underway shortly.

Poland must test Martin Dubravka in this second 45.

More woe for Wojciech

Wojciech Szczesny does not have a very good record in opening games of the Euros. He was also sent off in Poland’s first game of Euro 2012 as the tournament hosts were held by Greece.

Half-time: Poland 0-1 Slovakia

A hugely encouraging half for Slovakia. They’ve kept Lewandowski quiet, slowed down Poland’s attacks, and looked dangerous themselves on the breakaway. Duda, Mak and Hamsik have buzzed around their forward line and have all threatened at times.

Poland will be very frustrated with their performance so far. They simply need to offer more service to Lewandowski.

Poland 0-1 Slovakia

45 mins: Another Polish move breaks down with Zielinski’s pass for Beresynski running out for a goal-kick. That might be it for the half.

Poland 0-1 Slovakia

42 mins: A half-chance for Lewandowski, it sits up for the striker in the box but his volley from the angle is sliced wide of goal. That’s the best sight he’s had of the goal so far.

Poland 0-1 Slovakia

40 mins: Great defensive play from Hromada in midfield wins the ball back for Slovakia - for all of Poland’s movement and interchanging of positions they are really struggling to break their opponents down.

Poland 0-1 Slovakia

37 mins: It’s Linetty’s turn this time to let fly from outside of the box, with the midfielder slicing his shot wide under pressure from Skriniar.

Poland 0-1 Slovakia

35 mins: Krychowiak steps into midfield before firing a shot over the bar -and a couple of moments later Zielinski drifts inside form the right and drags a left-footed shot wide of the post. Poland are yet to have a shot on target.
