Scotland is set to sizzle in a five-day heatwave after the Scottish Government lifted some restrictions to the lockdown today.

The Met Office is anticipating a scorcher across the country on Friday, with the likes of Glasgow and Perth reaching potential highs of 26 degrees.

And the lovely weather will continue over the weekend and into next week as the sun looks set to dominate the country’s skies until Wednesday.

The temperatures are expected to fall just short of the highest ever recorded in Scotland for May.

Scots parks and beauty spots are expected to be busy as the country's lockdown restrictions are eased from today

Met Office experts recorded a record high of 30.9C in Inverailort, in the Highlands, back in May 2012.

The forecast comes less than a day after Scots were given the green light to sunbathe again as part of the Scottish Government’s phased plan to ease lockdown restrictions.

People can now visit another household in a private garden or in a park, while outdoor tennis courts and golf courses have been reopened.
