Sarah Hyland defends Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter after Instagram trolls slut-shame her outfit

Sarah Hyland has spoken out to defend her Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter after online trolls slut-shamed her outfit.

On Monday, the 29-year-old actor shared a series of photos from the family sitcom’s final wrap party which was held at the Sunset Room Hollywood in Los Angeles.

The first image in the slideshow featured Hyland and her on-screen sister Winter posing together in similar-looking ensembles.

While Hyland opted for a black midi dress with spaghetti straps, Winter wore a mini version that featured off-the-shoulder detailing and sheer cut outs on the waist and skirt.

For the most part, Hyland’s followers loved what the two actors wore, but some online trolls couldn’t resist criticising Winter’s outfit choice.

“Come on, girl. Why would you want to dress like that in front of a bunch of people who literally watched you grow into a young woman?” one person commented. “It's weird.”

Another agreed, adding: “A little too revealing...I'm sure every 20-something on here loves it but it’s too bikini-like for me. Lacks class. She's too pretty to settle for that look.”

Hyland acted like the ultimate big sister to Winter and responded to critics, saying there was no place for their negativity.

“She’s a sexy and confident woman,” responded Hyland.

“Everyone that is making a negative comment about my sister can back the f*** up because I WILL NOT tolerate it.”

When one fan wrote, “What’s up with Ariel Winter’s outfit tho [sic],” the actor replied, “You [mean] that she’s [fire emoji] ?? I KNOW.”

Another fan commented, “Need Arielle’s Dress,” to which Hyland responded, “same.”

In the series of photos, Hyland also posed with her Modern Family brother Nolan Gould and shared an embrace with her on-screen cousin Jeremy Maguire.

“I love these people with all my heart. 11 years together is proof you and your TV sister will start wearing the same outfit, siblings for life will be made, and you’ll forever fight over the same professor,” Hyland captioned the post.

“We’ll always be Dunphys and we’ll always have each other.”

The hit TV show premiered in 2009 and has since gone on to win five Emmys for outstanding comedy series.

In February 2019, ABC announced that the 11th season of the hit sitcom would be the series’ last, with the finale airing on 8 April in the US.
