Russian troops withdrew fromSnake Islandon the Ukrainian coast of the Black Sea as a "good faith gesture," the Pentagon said Thursday.
The ministry said the move did not impede the UN's efforts to organize a humanitarian corridor for Russia to export agricultural products from Ukraine.
Russia-occupied Snake Island on the first day of the invasion became world-famous when the Ukrainian border guards stationed there refused to request the surrender of Russian warships.
Andrey Jermac, head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Thursday that Russian troops had withdrawn from the island, a strategic Black Sea outpost.
"KABOOM! There are no Russian troops on Jijima anymore. Our troops did a great job," Yermak wrote on Twitter.
