Mr Corbyn's endorsement is that the UK government will take its case to the Supreme Court and Scotland will hold his second referendum. for outlining his arguments against holding a second referendum without conducting a Government Consent. In July Lord Advocate Dorothy Vane QC introduced an imminent referendum bill to the Supreme Court establishing whether the Scottish Parliament had the power to introduce it.

A UK government spokesperson said:

"Today we filed a written complaint with the Supreme Court as scheduled.

"On the question of legislative power, the bill enacting a referendum on independence It remains the UK government's clear view that it is outside the legislative powers of the Scottish Parliament."

Former Labor leaders contributed to the debate by backing the Prime Minister's plans for a second referendum.

Mr Corbyn, speaking at an event that was part of the Edinburgh Fringe on Tuesday, said it was "not right" for Westminster to say Scotland had "no choice".

The former opposition leader added that IndyRef2 was "absolutely the right thing to do."

MP Islington North was interviewed by Times journalist Graham Spears at an event titled "Conversations with Jeremy Corbyn."

Corbyn told Mr Spiers:

``I don't think it is right for the Westminster government to say no.

He continued: What could be the relationship and would a federal settlement work better?”

The SNP called Corbyn's successor, Sir Kiel Sturmer, "more and more Conservative", in praise of the former Labor leader.

But Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner also attended the Fringe this week, and she said, "I don't think dismantling the unions is the solution."

She said Added:

``Scotland is the absolute key, the key to Manchester, the key to Great Britain as a whole.

``I think the Brexit referendum was enough.''
