Richard Blackwood is making a return to soaps by landing a part in Hollyoaks two years after being axed from EastEnders.

The rapper/actor, 47, was left disappointed back in 2018 when his contract for the BBC One soap wasn't renewed after spending three years playing Vincent Hubbard.

However, he's now heading back to TV to play a brand new character in Hollyoaks and he's teased his arrival will be part of a dark new storyline.

In an Instagram post, he shared a snap of himself leaning against the Hollyoaks Village sign.

He wrote: "OK Ladies and Gentlemen I can OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE I’m playing a Brand New Character on @hollyoaksofficial ive been trying to bite my lip for a while now and I know my mum has been under pressure not to say anything lol!...

"God bless all the people that have supported me especially in my low times that will never be forgotten! Follow your dreams always people.”

Richard Blackwood as Vincent Hubbard in EastEnders. His character left the show on a cliffhanger

Richard was known to soap fans as Vincent Hubbard in EastEnders before he left the soap two years ago.

His character was held at gunpoint by a corrupt police officer and then went missing.

Viewers assumed he'd been murdered or gone on the run, but they never discovered Vincent's true fate.

The actor had previously been spotted leaving a meeting on the Hollyoaks set in Liverpool, sparking rumours that he was going to be among the cast.

According to the Digital Spy, it has been revealed that Richard will be playing the character of Felix Westwood and will join the cast in Spring.

He is the past love interest of character Martine Deveraux, played by Kelle Bryan, and is also the father to Mitchell Deveraux and long-lost-twin Toby Faroe.

Warren is also coming back to Hollyoaks, and actor Jamie Lomas is excited to be working alongside Richard

Jamie Lomas confirmed last year that he would be back on set, playing the infamous Warren Fox.

The actor also expressed his happiness at welcoming Richard to the Hollyoaks family: “Yessss my brother, welcome to the family. Can’t wait to start working with you, let the games begin!!!”

Previous to his character officially being announced, it was rumoured that Richard would be playing a rival villain to Fox.
