There were big queues outside hair salons today as they welcome back a stream of customers eager for their first cut in months.
Barbers have been busy getting their premises ready in time for their big opening today as Prime Minister Boris Johnson eased lockdown restrictions for the first time since January.
Non-essential shops and pub gardens and restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating have been reopening, along barbers and beauty salons, gyms and leisure centres.
One hairdessers, Legends Scissors, in High Street, Burton, saw a queue of customers outside its doors this morning.
One customer eager to for a trim was Ripu Banweit, who said: “I’m here just because I haven’t had my hair cut for three months. I’m happy to see them open again. I always come to this barber. I have seen a queue like this before.”
Another man, who asked not to be named, said: “There’s not normally a queue but I don’t mind at the moment to be fair.”
Dave Kirk-Locke, of Bangs salon, also in High Street, Burton, said this morning that his staff had a busy day ahead of them.
He said: "We have received a wonderful reception this morning with our booked in clients - and new clients who have all been so understanding about waiting until mid May [for available appointments].
"It’s great to be back with a bang! We are all so proud of our covid-safe salon and cannot wait for the summer."
Jon Gardner, of Gardner Barbers, which has salons in Burton, Barton under Needwood, Uttoxeter and Ashbourne, said: "We have made a very positive start to the day across all sites.
"It is lovely to see customers returning and still adhering to the covid guidelines.
"We appreciate everyone that has booked and is still trying to book. We are trying to get everyone in efficiently and as safely as possible."
Lauren Omahoney, who owns His and Hers Hair, in Guild Street, Burton, with Jodie Broadhurst, said: "We're absolutely buzzing to be back. Everyone is so happy and we are so happy. People have been bringing in little gifts and it's just been lovely.
"It's so nice to see everyone. There will be early starts and late finishes to get everyone in. On behalf of the salon, I would just like to say how thankful we are for everyone's loyalty."
