Queen Victoria’s XXL nightdress and stockings expected to sell for £1,800 at auction

QUEEN Victoria’s XXL nightdress and stockings are to go on sale — complete with her VR monogram.

Both were worn in her later life when she gained weight after the death of Prince Albert.

The white nightdress has a 66-inch bust, frilly laced neck and is expected to get £1,000 at London auction on Tuesday.

The black silk stockings with white feet could make £800.

Auctioneer Kerry Taylor said they were probably taken by a maid or page.

She said: “It’s extraordinary how many stockings and undergarments were taken.

"This would never happen today. Imagine if someone was taking pieces of monogrammed underwear belonging to her Majesty - I think they would be thrown in the tower.

"The nightdress and stockings are quite large, they are both from later in her life and in very nice condition considering they are over 100 years old.

"She's definitely a fascinating monarch, she was one of the most powerful women in the world ever.

"She was influential and quite controversial in her own ways.

"She wasn't a boring placid woman, she was passionate and I think people will always be fascinated by her."
