Puma has been ridiculed after making an £80 pair of trainers for playing video games.
The sportswear brand claimed its “active gaming footwear” was designed for elite players who switch between sitting forward and back.
But gamers mocked the sock-like shoes online with one saying: “This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Another, Brian Spicer, said: “Now I can be a pro, and look like a tw*t”, while Valentijn Geirnaert joked: “And here I’ve been gaming wearing regular socks like a sucker.”
And baffled Conor Doyle added: “Whoever buys these for that purpose eats cereal with a fork and a helmet on.”
Puma’s team head of gaming, Matt Shaw, stepped in to insist there was a ready market for them.
He said: “Will it help you perform better? Probably not drastically.
“But it was designed to make top-tier e-sports athletes more comfortable when they are performing, so we think you’ll enjoy wearing them.”
