PS5 UK stock update LIVE- Very and Smyths ‘set to restock TODAY’ as Game release date ‘changed to May 27’

SMYTHS and Very may drop fresh PS5 stock today or tomorrow - according to latest rumours on social media.

But, Game has reportedly changed its PS5 restock release date to May 27, says @PS5StockAlertUK.

It adds that this likely restock is “officialising what we stated beforehand that the April restock dates were placeholders.

“This alone shows that we may not see any PS5s from any retailers during April at all.”

Tracker account PS5StockAlert predicts consoles at Very and Smyths will drop today or Thursday - after Argos in-store stock sold out in a matter of hours.

The popular info account claims the backlog of shipments at most major retailers is likely caused by the Evergiven ship becoming stuck in Suez Canal earlier this month.

It tweeted: "The #Evergiven ship has caused major disruptions in shipments arriving and getting through customs. At this rate, next week seems unlikely too."

Meanwhile, online retailer Amazon is also predicted to get new stock in later in April.

  • SONY TO ROLL OUT FIRST MAJOR SOFTWARE UPDATE OF PS5 SINCE LAUNCH... MORE

Sony is also adding cross-generation Share Play.

This allows PS4 and PS5 players to view each other's screen and pass the controller virtually to a friend, meaning PS4 owners will be able to get a taste of the PS5.

A selection of enhanced control and personalisation options will be added to the PS5 too, including improvements to the Game Base area, the ability to quickly disable in-game chat, and customisation of the game library.

The PlayStation App will receive some changes "in the coming weeks", such as allowing people to join a multiplayer session on the PS5 from the app and remote management of their console's storage.

  • SONY TO ROLL OUT FIRST MAJOR SOFTWARE UPDATE OF PS5 SINCE LAUNCH

Sony is rolling out its first major system update to the PlayStation 5 console from Wednesday, April 14.

This will include the ability to store PS5 games on external USB storage.

The feature means users will be able to offload PS5 titles from their console's main internal storage, providing more space and making it faster to reinstall games instead of re-downloading or copying them from a disc.

PS5 games cannot be played from a USB extended hard drive, as this would impact performance speed - nor can they be directly downloaded to it.

The development is one of several big additions to arrive on the console since it launched in November 2020.

  • REACTION TO PS5 RESTOCK DELAYS

Brits still waiting to get their hands on a PS5 console aren't happy about further delays, given the grief they've had from greedy scalpers.

After seeing various warnings on several PS5-focused Twitter accounts today about further restock woes, one frustrated gamer joked: "Wonder if I’ll get one before I retire?"

Another announced: "I'm just giving up on a PS5 before Christmas, and possibly even until next year. Can't be arsed with all this. Will buy a new bike instead."

And one tweeted: "Been to Smyths today, they said no stock until end of May - at earliest. First come first served, no pre-order or waiting lists."

  • MAJOR PS5 RESTOCK DELAYS DUE TO SHIPPING ISSUES

There's been a "major PS5 stock delay," warns @PS5Instant on Twitter.

@PS5Instant added that "Argos and GAME received a small shipment".

But, this stock was "sold in store today and yesterday".

  • PS5 CONTINUES TO BREAK RECORDS

This titbit of information was dropped on Twitter by Christopher Dring, who is the Editor-in-Chief of GamesIndustry.biz, an industry-focused games website.

Estimates by VGChartz put the PS5’s total worldwide sales at just shy of 7 million units, which is impressive for a supply-constrained games console that has only been on sale for five months.

  • BEST VALUE ADVICE FOR PS5

On Twitter, @PS5UpdatesUK writes: "I get asked a lot, 'what’s the best value thing to buy for the PS5?'

"I always recommend PS Plus for 20 free games with the Plus Collection, and three monthly free games.

"It also stacks with current subscriptions."

  • HORROR GAME PS5 REMAKE

The Last of Us was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 and is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the past decade.

It was followed up by The Last of Us 2 last year, which won game of the year at the 2020 Game Awards.

According to Bloomberg, developer Naughty Dog is currently working on a remake of the much-loved original title.

Of course, Sony already released a remastered version of the game in 2014 to coincide with the release of the PlayStation 4.

  • BACK FROM THE DEAD

Sony is reportedly working on a PlayStation 5 remake of beloved survival horror game The Last of Us.

The possible remake is expected to follow the same story as the 2013 original, but with upgraded graphics to match the power of the Japanese gaming giant’s new console.

"Unfortunately", Game has changed its listings to May 27, reports @PS5UKStock.

The Twitter tipster adds: "Could this be a start of a trend for more retailers? If so, it's going to be a very dry month for drops."

  • PS5 SONY SYSTEM UPDATE

The first major system software update for the PS5 console is rolling out globally tomorrow, and "it’s packed with new features and improvements", according to a PlayStation blog.

@PS5UKStock warns on Twitter: "Sony is rolling out a system update so you can store PS5 games on an external hard drive.

"Sadly, you will not be able to launch from it.

"It is faster to reinstall PS5 games from USB extended storage than to re-download or copy them from a disc."

  • PLAYSTATION COULD BE LOOKING TO BOOST ITS MOBILE GAMING

PlayStation could be planning to develop and expand its mobile gaming offering, if a recent PlayStation Studios job listing is anything to go by.

The job listing, shared on the ResetEra forums (via IGN), is for a new Head of Mobile at PlayStation Studios, reports Tech Radar.

According to the job description, Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking for someone based in San Mateo or Los Angeles to “own and develop the mobile games strategy for PlayStation Studios” and be “responsible for building and scaling a team of mobile leaders and will serve as the Head of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios.”

“I think it would be fun to be in that world co-operatively and see what horde battles could be like.

“It’s one of the things that we had in our pitch, yeah. It was the idea of a shared universe with co-op play.”
