Princess Diana might still be alive if it wasn’t for Martin Bashir interview, says TV host Richard Madeley

'BLAME BASHIR'

PRINCESS Diana might still be alive if she had not been interviewed by Martin Bashir, TV host Richard Madeley believes.

Madeley, who is friends with Diana’s brother Earl Spencer, has accused both Bashir and the BBC of a mass cover-up.

He claims the fraudulent documents that persuaded her to record her dynamite TV interview 25 years ago resulted in the Queen ordering Charles and Diana to divorce.

And he said that meant she “lost her royal protection”. She died in 1997 in a car crash in France.

Speaking on the How to Wow podcast, he said: “She lost her royal drivers, and she wound up in Paris with a drunk driver in the Alma tunnel.

"I believe none of that would have happened if she hadn’t been duped into giving an interview.”

Earl Spencer has claimed he was shown false financial documents by Bashir so that he could gain access to Diana for the Panorama interview in 1995.

Madeley, 64, added: “I think she probably would’ve given an interview to somebody and probably would’ve said many of the things that she said.

"But I don’t think her head would’ve been messed the way it was because she saw those bank statements.

“She was convinced these innocent people were betraying her, and they weren’t. It affected her, big time. All events have causes. And I see a line of dominoes tinkering down and ending in that tragedy.

“And I think that’s why there’s so much anger now at the BBC in this context, and what appeared to be, in the year after this documentary came out, the cover up.

“The BBC is in a very difficult position. The sooner they hold their hands up and say what really happened back then, the better for them.”
