Prince George, 8, overjoyed by 'surprise' birthday treats from Queen, Kate and William

Prince George ‘on the precipice’ says commentator

To celebrate the 8th birthday of the future King of England, proud parents Prince William and Kate Middleton also gave the young football fan his very own football themed cake. A royal source told Us Weekly: “Kate and William surprised George with a football cake.”

The young prince watched England’s heartbreaking defeat in the Euro 2020 Final.

And his love for the beautiful game is something shared with his father.

William, a long-time supporter of Aston Villa, leapt to his feet when Manchester United’s Luke Shaw put the Three Lions ahead against Italy at Wembley.

Just last year, the Duke of Cambridge even told listeners of Peter Crouch’s BBC podcast that he backed his eldest son to put on the claret and blue jersey at Villa Park and become the club’s leading goalscorer.

The young prince also received “lots of lovely presents” from his parents, including a nature explorer set and a watch.

George celebrated his eighth birthday on July 22.

He received a “special gift” from the Queen as he celebrated a “wonderful” 8th birthday last week, a royal source has said.

Us Weekly reported George’s “Gan-Gan”, the Queen, had sent a birthday message to her eldest great-grandson, albeit not in person.

The source said: “The Queen Zoomed Prince George to wish him a happy birthday.

“She sent him a lovely gift as a surprise."

Another source said: “It’s really nice for him because there’s no school at the moment.

“He's on holiday.”

It is a royal tradition for the 8th birthday to be an important day for the children.

Many blue-blooded children, including Prince Charles and the late Prince Philip, were sent off to boarding school.

However, while William and Kate are reportedly “open” to George attending a boarding school, it is still unknown where he will continue his education.

Before George turned eight last Thursday, William and Kate continued the royal tradition of sharing portrait photos of their oldest son.

The future King was snapped sitting on a Land Rover, in what appears to be a tribute to his late great-grandfather.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away in April at the age of 99, reportedly loved Land Rovers.

Prince Philip even created his own hearse in collaboration with Land Rover in 2003.

George’s beaming smile has also led many to conclude the future King has changed a lot in the last twelve months.

Following the release of the images, royal author Angela Levin even said: “It’s lovely to see Prince George less shy and more confident.”
