Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope was in outstanding form once more as his heroics helped his side to a valuable 1-0 win at Liverpool.

Pope made six saves as the Clarets prevailed late on at Anfield thanks to an Ashley Barnes penalty and, in doing so, became the first team to win in the Premier League at Anfield since Crystal Palace in April 2017.

It ended a 68-game unbeaten run for Jurgen Klopp's side and Pope played a key role in ensuring his side secured a deserved win, with the defence in front of him also once again holding firm.

His best save was to deny Reds substitute Mohamed Salah, who came on as a second-half substitute and tried to deceive Pope by showing to shoot in the far corner, only to whip it towards the near post but the Burnley No.1 made a stunning reflex stop.

He was commanding from set pieces and assured with his handling too and his performance left Liverpool fans making comparisons to Juventus and Italy goalkeeping great Gianluigi Buffon.

Pope excelled in his side's 1-1 draw in the corresponding fixture from last season and maintained his own personal good form at Anfield with another impressive showing.

Here's what Liverpool fans have had to say about the Burnley goalkeeper on social media.

@empireofthekop: Standard peak Buffon level performance from Pope at Anfield, as per

@The_Gerrard_Era: This mf Nick Pope man. Whenever he plays against us he turns into Prime Buffon. I hate this game.

@Ianwayne22: Utterly utterly disgraceful performance! Some of the play tonight has been a disgrace utterly clueless on times! Cross after cross to no one, everything straight to Pope. Time for both #Origi and #firmino to be sold! Both can’t hit a barn door! Trents needs dropping ASAP! #LFC

@NicJayne_: We look completely lost this season. Aimless crosses against giant defenders and a brilliant goalkeeper in Pope. We are in some shocking form. #LFC

@shanethepain78: We lost because we gave a penalty away. I've seen every player blamed other than fabinho and alison for the defeat. I love both of them but their combined mistake lost us the game. Nick Pope like last season played like prime casillas and buffon combined.

@AaronMannion89: Pope playing like prime Buffon against us as always

@JonnyGibson33: Pope having his standard prime Buffon game at Anfield.

@lfcJay90: Nick pope turns into prime Buffon every time he plays us

@fervourfirmino: Im sorry but why does pope decide to turn into prime buffon everytime he's at anfield its ridiculous

@r_slater7: Forgot pope was Buffon

@NabyLad_YesLad: WHY HAS POPE TURNED INTO PRIME BUFFON
