One of the Northern Quarter's coolest restaurants is making the move to the suburbs, with a new bar and bagel shop set to open in Prestwich.

Eat New York, which started life as a street food operation before setting down roots on Oldham Street, has secured a new site on Bury New Road.

The brand is best known for its bagels and burgers, which are stuffed with fillings like hot salt beef, breaded mozzarella, and fried buttermilk chicken.

Its bright yellow New-York-taxi-style street food van has become a familiar site at events in Greater Manchester, including Parklife festival, and in 2019 it made its debut at the Manchester Christmas Markets.

The site on Oldham Street has been largely closed since October last year, though has continued to run delivery services.

Eat New York announced the Prestwich opening on social media this week, saying locals can expect 'all of our best food and so much more, with deliveries to town, collections and a cool spot to hang out and grab a beer'.

The new site will take over a former chip shop at 24 Bury New Road, close to the always-busy grill and deli Ta'am.

The full post from Eat New York says: "Lockdown was tough for all businesses and we were no different. We had major plans put on hold, cancelled events and festivals, we were pretty panicked.

"We wanted to keep trading however, so we decided, like many have, to change the way we did things.

"We moved into the takeaway game. Now we will be the first to admit that we were absolute amateurs when we first got going, demand was through the roof and there were some pretty chaotic (and hilarious) moments we can now look back on.

"But, we got better, and slicker, and we soon saw an opportunity and future calling for Eat New York as a premium takeaway brand.

"With this in mind we are delighted to announce that Eat New York has a new home in Prestwich.

"A place that showed us frankly overwhelming support when we needed it most. We cannot wait to open our new site here.

"Expect all of our best food and so much more, with deliveries to town, collections and a cool spot to hang out and grab a beer.

"Keep an eye on our socials for updates, and hopefully, see you all soon. Eat New York x"
