Preston's Yates pub is set to close after over 100 years - and will be re-opening as a Slug & Lettuce, with a full refurbishment of the beloved pub underway too.

In a post shared this morning (October 19), Yates Preston announced that they would be re-opening as a Slug and Lettuce on December 3.

Yates Preston is situated on the Preston high street and has been there for over a century. They offer an extensive food menu with a variety of deals, including two meals for £8.49.

Slug & Lettuce is part of the Stonegate Pub Company and operates as a chain of bars throughout the UK. It was first opened in Islington in 1985.

As a Slug & Lettuce, visitors can expect to see the pub offer cocktail trees, boozy brunches and afternoon teas.

On Facebook, Yates Preston wrote: "The rumours are true... we will re-open as Slug & Lettuce on 3rd December. Tell a friend that loves cocktails."

Yates Preston has also confirmed that it will be undergoing a full refurbishment before re-opening in December.

One user wrote: "I'm so happy about this.. love slug and lettuce, in time for our night out too!"

Another wrote: "We should all go and try Bottomless Brunch xx"

Others weren't so sure about the takeover.

One user said: "Disgraceful.. and an awful name.. Yates has been that name forever, leave our History & Heritage alone.. No way am I checking in at such a silly named bar."

A second user commented: "Is there a petition to stop this from happening?"
