Police are trying identify this man in connection with a 'vicious' stabbing in south Manchester.

The victim, aged in his late teens, was approached by a group of five men armed with knives near Longsight Medical Practice on Stockport Road.

The gang chased the victim and then assaulted him, stabbing him in the chest, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

One arrest has been made and enquiries are ongoing.

The attack happened at around 5pm on 24 January 2021.

Police have now issued an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the attack - he may be known as 'YS' or 'Young Shifty', detectives said.

Detective Sergeant Louise Kelly said: "This was a vicious attack which left the victim in hospital with a serious stab wound.

"This type of violence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester."

"It is believed that this man may be known by the nickname 'YS' or 'Young Shifty.'
