Traffic has been stopped on the M6 due to a man crossing the carriageway.

At around 7am on Monday, police and highways officers stopped traffic on both the M6 southbound and northbound carriageways between junctions 25 and 26 after a person was seen trying to cross the motorway.

A spokesperson for the North West motorway police said: "We have stopped the traffic on the northbound and southbound M6 junction 25 to junction 26 due to a pedestrian crossing both carriageways live lane.

"We will keep you updated. Police are making on a grade one response."

Traffic officers from the Highways team along with police from Merseyside are also attending.

Traffic is beginning to build up in this area and motorists are being asked to take care when approaching the junctions.
