Five severed human fingertips have been recovered by police from the Humber Bridge.

The gruesome find was made on Friday evening after a "cycling accident", officers said.

The male victim had been on his bicycle on the bridge when the incident happened.

Police said the cyclist had been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary to receive treatment for his injuries, but he was reportedly in "good spirits" following the incident.

On Twitter, a spokesperson from Humberside Police said the lost fingertips had been the second job of the night for Team Two from Beverley.

They said: "Second job of the shift isn’t something that happens very often.

"We have just recovered five pieces of fingers from the Humber Bridge.

"A cyclist left them behind after he fell off his bike... now on the way to HRI."
