Police investigating Ryan Giggs' alleged assault on his girlfriend have passed the case to the Crown Prosecution Service, according to reports.

The CPS will now decide whether charges will be brought against the Wales football manager.

Manchester United legend Giggs, 47, was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault after police were called to reports of a disturbance at his home in Greater Manchester on October 31.

Currently on bail, Giggs will soon learn whether the matter will proceed to court.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told MailOnline: "A file has been submitted to the CPS and a decision is expected in due course."

Giggs stood aside from his Wales football duties in the wake of the allegations.

A police statement previously said: "Police were called at 10.05pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance. A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

"A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault."
