A man was spotted with a knife on a train in Preston.

British Transport Police were alerted to the incident and attended.

When locating the man, they discovered he was in fact carrying a steak knife - as well as other cutlery and a steak.

He told officers he had been out for a pub meal and was going to miss his train so decided to take it all with him.

Sharing the incident on Twitter, police joked that this was a 'mis-steak on his part and a 'rare incident.'

A spokesperson for British Transport Police, in Lancashire, said: "Report of a male with a knife. Person was located with a steak knife. He also had a steak and other cutlery.

"Turned out he hadn’t finished his pub meal by the time his train was due so he took it all with him. Mis-steak on his part. Rare incident.

"Well done officers!"

British Transport Police forces in other areas also joined in with her joke.

BTP London Victoria added: "Clearly, unlike a good steak, you like your jokes well done."

Whilst BTP Birmingham wrote: "Tempted to also try a steak pun here, but we'd just butcher it."
