Police launched into a chase after spotting a car believed to have 'weapons' inside.

Officers sped through the streets on Saturday night, June 12, in pursuit of a 'suspicious Renault' car 'with possible weapons on board', Greater Manchester Police has said.

Five police patrols were deployed in the chase, which led them from Prestwich to Kersal.

In Kersal, the chase drew to a close and all three occupants of the car were detained.

The driver of the Renault was charged on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified, the force has confirmed.

The driver has been remanded in custody.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Last night, XMS7 spotted a sus Renault in Prestwich with possible weapons on board.

"XMS7 successfully pursued the vehicle, along with XA23, and detained all 3 occupants in Kersal, Salford; with XM, TAU and XD patrols assisting.

"Driver charged and remanded to custody for dangerous drive, no insurance and disqualified driving x2 after some great Spec Ops teamwork."
