Police have caught a cyclist riding in the hard shoulder of the M55.
This happened as Lancs Road Police drove along the Lancashire motorway - which connects Blackpool to Preston - earlier today (February 28).
The cyclist was spotted casually riding along in the hard shoulder, as other vehicles overtook them.
Police had to slow down, with images showing them reaching speeds under 60mph as the approached the rider.
Officers said that while it was a 'lovely day for doing exercise' - as Lancashire was graced with sunshine on Sunday - they didn't think the hard shoulder of the M55 was the best place.
Under current lockdown rules, there are restrictions for leaving your home, but exercising once per day in your local area is still permitted.
Following the incident, Lancashire Police's DCC Terry Woods labelled it a "silly" course of action.
With police covering more than 150 miles of motorway across the county - including the M6, M61, M55, M65 and the M58 - they said thankfully not many people risk cycling along them.
Speaking of the incident on Twitter, Lancs Road Police said: "Although MN31 agreed that it was a lovely day for you to be out and about doing your daily exercise. They didn’t think the hard shoulder of the M55 was the best choice for a cycle."
In response to the tweet, DCC Terry Woods said: "Lancashire Police cover well over 150 miles of motorway including M6, M61, M55, M65 and M58.
"Thankfully not many people are silly enough to risk cycling along them!!"
