Pinterest has brought in new rules for its 450million users.

To mitigate negativity on social media, Pinterest has taken action with a new Creator Code.

The code was created after a year which has seen celebrities leave social media to take extended breaks for their mental health and others seeking outlets they know will provide them with a positive experience

Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye totally backs the initiative. He said: “There are so many things that we encounter on social media platforms that are not life-affirming, and really dehumanizing.

"That is why I love the Creator Code – it really focuses on positivity and inclusion, and that doesn’t mean we don’t have to talk about difficult things.

"It means that we are not dehumanizing, it’s not tearing folks down, it’s not negatively oriented, it’s not an echo chamber of hate. That is what Pinterest and the Creator Code does – it is allowing us to humanize each other and that is really important.”

CREATOR CODE RULES

The Creator Code is a set of mandatory guidelines that lives within Pinterest, intended to educate and build community around inclusive and compassionate content. From April, Creators will be required to agree and sign the code before they can publish content on Story Pin. It is chance for Creators to acknowledge their responsibility in keeping Pinterest safe and positive.

The code outlines specific rules that Creators must follow, including:

In addition to the Creator Code, Pinterest is also sharing details on its first-ever Creator Fund, a program to elevate Creators from underrepresented communities through financial and educational support. The program, currently only available in the United States, was started because Pinterest saw a need to uplift Creators and communities that have been disproportionately underrepresented on the platform.
